Not Every Battle is Yours

Scripture
2 Chronicles 35:20–27

Josiah’s story began so beautifully, and his faith grew remarkably strong. But his final chapter is a tragic, sudden heartbreak. The king of Egypt was marching to war, and the fight had absolutely nothing to do with Josiah. Yet, for some reason, the king of Judah decided to insert himself right into the middle of it. A clear warning came from heaven. Josiah ignored it. He marched onto the battlefield at Megiddo, caught an archer's arrow, and died. In a single afternoon, Judah lost its greatest reforming king.

It is a sobering, flashing warning light for our own souls: yesterday's faithfulness does not automatically guarantee today's wisdom. You can have decades of spiritual experience under your belt, but in every single new situation, you still need to drop to your knees and seek the guidance of heaven. True spiritual maturity is the quiet, discerning wisdom to know exactly when to charge the hill, and when to completely walk away. Not every fight is your fight. Not every single opportunity is your calling. And just because a door swings wide open does not mean that God is the one who unlocked it! In those moments when you feel the most confident, the most powerful question you can ask isn't, "What makes sense to me?" but "What is the Father actually saying?" Josiah made a fatal mistake, yet the Bible still remembers him with profound respect. And there is incredible grace in that for you and me. One foolish decision doesn't have to permanently define your entire story. But let it teach you to walk carefully. The safest place on earth is a heart that constantly stops to listen for the Shepherd's voice.
