The Fireproof Word

Scripture
Jeremiah 36:20–31

Picture the absolute arrogance of King Jehoiakim. He is sitting in his winter apartment, a warm fire crackling in the hearth. As God’s heavy, prophetic warnings are read aloud to him, the king doesn't tremble. He doesn't drop to his knees in repentance. Instead, he casually reaches for a scribe's knife, slices the sacred scroll into pieces, and tosses them straight into the flames. He honestly thought a cheap blade and a hot fire could silence the Creator of the cosmos. He could burn the parchment, sure. But he couldn't even leave a blister on the living Word of God. The Almighty simply had Jeremiah grab another scroll and write it all down again—and then added even more!

You can burn a piece of paper, but you cannot incinerate the truth. You can silence a human messenger, but you cannot stop the unstoppable purposes of heaven. We desperately need to let that deep, unshakeable reality calm our nerves today. When the culture around you aggressively pushes back against your faith, you do not have to panic. You do not have to clench your fists, raise your voice, or pick a bitter fight on the internet. The truth of God does not need you to nervously defend it with anger; it simply asks you to faithfully declare it with your life. The gospel remains absolutely true whether society claps for it or throws it into the fire. Your job isn't to win a shouting match. Your job is simply to stand firm in the truth, wrapped entirely in the gentle, unflinching grace of Jesus Christ.
